I'm noticing that rap and pop artists are using elements of second wave music in their production. never before has hip hop embraced electronic music so much!

Yeah, it's a weird mix because they're such different genres. I have mixed feelings on that, if it's sh*tty music like Kesha or Gaga (I kinda liked her at first, but she's so overrated and too clubby/rave sounding) getting popular instead of, say Owl City...then I don't like it so much lol. But at least there's some electronic influence, which is better than music was in 2004.

Yeah electronic influence is clearly visible in songs like Love In This Club, Lollipop, Cooler Than Me, Right Round, Day N Nite. A lot of it is related to autotune and Timbaland's push a few years back towards incorporating more electro sounds in hip-hop/pop music. Rihanna's popularity is big too, she's like equal parts hip-hop, pop, r&b even some pop rock songs she did. Ne-Yo's later songs are also noticeable more dancey and closer to electropop. Lady GaGa has become the golden standard of the electropop style, she's not hip-hop but has broad crossover appeal. Kesha is an inferior version of GaGa but with a bit of a hip-hop attitude. Katy Perry also electropop with a dash of pop rock thrown in.

GaGa is better than Paula Abdul any day of the week. And Owl SHITTY is trash.
