They were the first truly "modern" band in many respects, but in a way I think they influenced 80s music (both generationally, and just the catchy way the songs were produced), and of course that influenced second wave. They could even pass for a brand new retro indie band too.
These all seem a bit new wavey to me (and my personal favs):
