Most non new wave current music sucks imo, the only ones I'm a fan of are Katy Perry and to a lesser extent Taylor Swift. They're not synthpop per se, but sound kinda 80s to me and that's probably why I like them. 
Like "You Belong With Me" is a h*lla good 2009 song but it could be like a run of the mill 80s song too.
If You Can Afford Me and Waking Up in Vegas are Katy's best songs, sorta Pat Benatarish, I hope she does more of that in the future.
