It would be okay if it was "just another genre", like it was in the 90s (or even late 80s), but I hate the influence it has over most music and pop culture, since about 2001.
It's too raw for my tastes I guess, I like catchier, more well produced music and I guess I long for a return to that. The only R&B I like are songs more in that direction, like "I Can Love You Like That" by All 4 One.

yeah, i agree it's still too dominant, hopefully it will go back to being "just another genre" later in the 10's.

The worst hip-hop is the Soulja Boy style, it's still not totally dead but it seems to be very close to death.

Yeah, I think that Soulja Boy/joke rap makes it all seem bad by comparison. Even tho I never liked it in the 90s either, at least that was more of an "art form" (i.e. Tupac rapping about street life) as opposed to crunk and club stuff.
I think hip hop might also be better if it were just rhyming or just instrumental. When it's mixed together it's too raw/unmelodic for me (with a few exceptions). It's not all horrible, I just can't relate to it I guess.

Yeah, I like the Beasties' 80s suburban sense of humor. The old school party rap was cool, like pre 1991. Hammer of course too.
